Tip: The Help pages are context-sensitive so that, for example, if you were looking at a book's table of contents page and clicked the Help button, you would have been taken straight to the Help section about full-text content. AMA Manual of Style Online reproduces the structure of the original printed work as far as possible, with the addition of many features only supported in electronic form, such as full-text searching, cross-referencing via section numbers, and linking to other online texts from bibliographies.

A few key controls enable you to move around easily.

• To move backward or forward through the text, use the Previous/Next page controls at the top and bottom right of any full-text page.
• To quickly reach another section, use the drop-down menu at the top of the page, under the banner.
• To browse through the section list, click on Book Contents in the left navigational area and choose either the Table of Contents or a particular section.

Click on Index in the left navigational bar to access the full index from the 10th edition. Instead of listing page numbers, the index on AMA Manual of Style Online lists section numbers. You can browse the index by clicking “Previous” or “Next” at the top or bottom of the page, or by selecting a letter from the alphabet bar. You can also search the index by clicking on Advanced Search and then choosing the Index Search tab.

AMA Manual of Style Online uses appropriate characters to render correctly on screen all the specialized characters used in the original text, including mathematical expressions, for which "MathML" has been used to ensure correct presentation. Tables are re-rendered in HTML. In some cases special image files have been used to render characters correctly, when character codes are not recognized by standard operating systems. You may notice when you are loading a new page that these characters appear a few moments later than ordinary text.
