Spacing With Mathematical Symbols
Thin spaces should be used before and after the following mathematical symbols: ±, =, <, >, ≤, ≥, +, −, ÷, ×, ·, ≈, ∼, ∩, ∫, Π, Σ, and |.
a ± b a = b a + b a − b a ÷ b a × b a · b a > b a < b
Symbols are set close to numbers, superscripts and subscripts, and parentheses, brackets, and braces.
