News Releases

Ethical and Legal Considerations

Annette Flanagin

Many journals issue news releases on selected articles determined by the editors to be of interest to the public. For JAMA and the Archives Journals, experienced science writers prepare the news releases, which are reviewed by the editors to ensure accuracy and objectivity. News releases of journal content should be under the authority of the editor, not the journal’s publisher or owner (see also , Editorial Freedom and Integrity). News editors, writers, and producers receive hundreds of news releases a week. Thus, a news release must attract attention, but it also must conform to a familiar format and style .

AMA Manual of Style requires a subscription or purchase to access the full text of books within the service. Public users can however freely search the site and view the abstracts and keywords for each book and chapter.
